Each day with our Susannah is such a gift. We can hardly believe that we have the privilege of watching and nurturing this little life! Neither Harry nor I can imagine life without her. Even nighttime feedings, which are only happening every 4-5 hours now, are a time of sweet, quiet reflection...reflection on how thankful we are, how amazing God's faithfulness is, how gracious our Heavenly Father has been to us. As several friends continue to walk the road of infertility and endure the heartache of failed in vitro treatments and fertility drug trials, we are reminded that this child--just like EVERY child--is the most precious and generous blessing that the Lord could ever bestow.
We are learning to savor every moment and take nothing for granted. We spend collective hours watching our sweet one sleep, recording in our minds the way her eyes flutter and her bountiful cheeks cause her rosebud mouth to pucker. We love her waketime, standing in awe as her eyes learn to follow ours, and marveling at how she stops moving at the sound of our voices. We enjoy watching how Rylie sniffs and "guards" her as she sleeps in her swing, and how our sweet pup lays peacefully at my feet as I nurse our little gift. I adore how she looks into my eyes as she eats, and then how those eyes slowly close as she relishes the warm milk and the closeness of her Mama.
It is indeed an honor to shepherd this precious life...one that I cannot imagine living without. Motherhood is the highest calling there is, and I am humbled that God would choose me to enter into this elite group of women.
"He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD." Psalm 113: 9
