7/11 - Diaper Contest
Finding out that your baby has won the best in show for poop-distance. How fun(?) it is to clean up poop that has splattered all over her crib, blankets, stuffed animals, and the wall!
7/11 - Where Life Goes
Realizing its been a whirlwind when you haven't posted in approximately 6 months!
1/11 - Pocket Surprises
Finding all sorts of items in your pockets -- pebbles, small sticks, little combs for dolls or horses, and even the occasional fairy shaped graham cracker (well, ok, more than occasional).
7/10 - We all have our ladybugs
Susannah was happily riding her ladybug. However, as she scooted around, she fell off backwards rather awkwardly. After consoling her for a time, I explained to her that we all have ladybugs that we fall off of.
7/10 - Tripping
The lights were off after watching a movie in the living room and Daddy tripped over something. Stumbling around and finding the light switch, he looked and said, "Oh, I just tripped on Elmo."
3/10 - Baby talk
I (Lacey) just signed off from a phone conversation with my dear friend in Alabama by very naturally saying: "Well, I'm off to squeeze water out of horse hineys before I head to bed." (Susannah has been taking her toy horsies into the tubby with her and they have a tendency to fill up!) You know you've arrived at parenthood when tasks like this are typical wrap-ups to your daily to-do list...
6/09 - Diaper Talk
Daddy had just changed Susannah's diaper. After cleaning up, he came over and said, "I have just returned from the nuclear waste dump site.
4/09 - Baby song?
Thanks to Grammy's expert teaching, Susannah has begun to "stack" her hands one on top of the other whenever someone sings "Pat-a-Cake." Harry, who hasn't officially heard many common nursery rhymes, unwittingly created his own version in the kitchen while he played this game with her: "Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake, baker's man. Bake me a cake as fast as you can. Roll the dough, slap a 'B' on it for Baby and me, and put it in the oven." Mama burst into hysterics. 'Tis funny to have a deaf Daddy!
4/09 - Food and dots?
While visiting with friends recently, their happy, happy nine-year-old daughter Anya showed tremendous interest in Susannah and all of her baby ways and needs. When Susannah and I entered the living room on Saturday morning, Anya immediately asked, "Did she already have her 'breast food'?" :) We played a bit, and Anya observed Susannah's hands intensely, finally asking (about the dimples on her knuckles), "What are those little dots for?"
11/08 - A growing bird
As we were dressing Susannah for bed the other night, she was squawking as normal. She then began to flap her little arms stiffly and rapidly, whereupon Harry leaned over to me in that adoring and proud parent voice and whispered, "Awwww...our little pterodactyl is getting her wings."
8/08 - Baby Frontier
During Monday's visit from my sister, Jenna, I was sun-drying Susannah's cloth diapers. I mentioned to her that I was making my own baby wipes, and that I needed to get our recently-picked grapes (we have a grapevine in our yard) juiced. My "city slicker" sister's response? "Wow...you're like a pioneer woman!"
6/08 - Is it time yet?
We decided to let Susannah fuss in her bassinet for a few minutes the other night when we had tried for a while to put her to sleep. We waited downstairs as she (barely) cried, having this conversation: Lacey (sweating and nearly-frantic)--"What's it been...a half an hour?" Harry--(checks time on his cell phone) "About a minute and 57 seconds."
