Our Trip to the "Puh-tin" Patch

After a week confined to our home due to the Swine Flu, our family needed an outing! Since I (Lacey) am not yet feeling 100%, the outing had to be pretty local and low-key. About 15 minutes from our home in the small farming town of Churchville is a sheep farm that also grows vegetables and opens its doors to pumpkin seekers in the fall. With a 16-month-old, less is more...and today turned out to be the perfect day to go to Chester's Farm. Just a few other people were visiting the farm today, which meant we almost had the place to ourselves! Susannah got to pet and feeds goats and sheep, though her main interest, amazingly, was "puh-tins." I guess animals are much more fun in pictures when you're of the cautious, "downloading" nature! After brief interactions with the critters, the three of us passed on the hayride (Harry and I felt the noisy tractor and bumpy terrain would be too much for our Strawberry) and walk the short distance out to the pumpkin patch. Susannah was in heaven seeing all those "puh-tins" in one place! She walked the field, touching the "puh-tins" and even kissing a few to show her affection for them. She was especially intrigued by one pumpkin that was old and mushy. We watched as Daddy picked up one of the big pumpkins, found a few white pumpkins, and came away not only with a wonderful memory, but also with a just-her-size "puh-tin" to "show Rylie" at home.

Daddy ended up doing most of the feeding, as all these hungry goats were a bit intimidating for a toddler!

So serious!

Kissing a "puh-tin"

Walking out to the pumpkin patch

Found an ear of dried corn on the way to the field and talked about how the farm animals can eat this corn

PUH-TINS!!!!! How exciting!

Some of the remaining puh-tins had holes in them from bugs. These holes sure were fascinating to find!

Happy day!

Puh-tin sitting

Ooooooh, a stem! But it was just too heavy a puh-tin for Susannah to pick up...

On our way back to the car, Daddy spotted a fuzzy brown caterpillar just like the one in Susannah's butterfly book! He was wiggly and fun to pet.

This is the puh-tin Susannah chose...the only one in the field she could pick up herself! :)

Bye-bye, puh-tins!
